Wikispace

Wikispace as demonstrated on the above clip shows how to use Wikispace and it can be manipulated into the incorrect information or more information can be added by other users. Some the information is reliable but other times it is not. It is best this Wikispace is not used for educational purposes but could be used to develop a better understanding on a topic and then expand to books and journals. The task which was given was to find out what education may be like in the future as technology is evolving. I found that education will develop alongside technology as technology is the key to education everything is done through a computer or software. There is no space for old technology only for newer and better to develop society to become independent. I still have strong opinions, which technology should not take over the social aspect, of learning. Vygotsky said that social interaction combined with cognitive activity develops individuals learning.

Blog Review

I have chosen the edu.blogs.com written by Ewan McIntosh who is teacher. The reason that i think this blog is valuable enough to be on my blog is because the writer and his colleges are using current education research with design thinking skills from the creative industries. They have been conducting experiments on different creative ways of learning. They have conducted this research around different parts of the world. The blog also comments on how the government have favorite subjects which they want to enforced in the curriculum and that all the debates lead back to history. The blog is showing how design thinking, can help to provide a learning application. That can be used on anything, which can develop teachers thinking on how they can give children a better experience of learning.

Pros and cons of an Web 2 App

The negative points about this Web 2 app are that it is difficult to use at first as it the layout is different and hard to understand. Also when creating a Glogster it was hard for me to input images and videos as it is very sensitive example is when I was trying to input images of birds it was hard to add another image. Also there is not much choice of design i personally did not like any of the designs most of them are themes around something. The positive about the Web 2 app is that the teacher is able to create a lesson based around Glogster, which would contain videos and images which would help children use all the learning styles. Another positive is that the Glogster has bright and creative pictures and design would catch the eyes of the children.

Reflective Learners

Today in Visual communication: Culture & creativity there was a discussion on reflective learners and what it means to be a reflective learner. The task was to develop a awareness of what is reflective learning and to create a brain storm. Reflective learning is the process of self exploring and investigating. Reflective learning can occur when a task has arisen which can trigger by a past experience or memory’s which can create a meaning to the individual which can develop a change in their conceptual perspective. Boyd and Fales 1983 Experimental learning theory is a perspective on learning that is combined with experience, perception, behaviour and cognition. Kolb (1984) suggests that there are three 3 models of experimental learning which are founded by John Dewey, Kurt Lewin and Jean Piaget. Kurt Lewin theory suggested that an individual must have a goal but has to be able to experience something to be able to reflect or feedback. John Dewey theory suggests that there are three intellectual operations which is involved 1) Observing the surroundings 2) Knowledge of what has happened in a similar situation in the past which can help on advice 3) Judgment which gathers the information of what has been observed or what has been recalled. John Dewey 1938 also suggested that experience, observation and action give a individual the impulse to learn and reflect. Jean Piaget model of learning and cognitive development suggests that the learning process development take place as an individual interacts which environment.

Ted Talk- Inspired Me

The reason I have chosen the video above is that it reminds me of my family in Bangladesh, who do not have the privileges of technology and are unable to go to school due to finical reasons. As well as this there are not enough suitable teachers coming over from other countries to teach. The Tedtalk clip has shown that where teaches want to go and teach is sometimes not the best thing to do as all countries need education so that the population can learn and develop. No matter what part of the world an individual is from they can still acquire the skills to learn.

This has shown me that children learn best in groups, as they are more likely to remember what they have learned and, also can converse about the topic later on, as they will have photographic recall. I can relate to this as I personally use photographic recall as it enables me to remember more and if I am unable to remember I can ask someone who was within my group. The clip has inspired me to become a teacher who uses this method to leave the child to build their own structure and to be there just to give praise this could revolutionize how we think about teaching.

Glogster

The web 2 app which i have decided to explore is Glogster i found it very easy to use as it had simple instruction i will more than likely use it again. Glogster is a tool which can be used in education to teach children difficult topic which can be boring the teacher can do this by creating a bright and colourful interactive poster with YouTube clips and simple information which is easy to read and absorb. Children will enjoy this even more as it is interactive which will let the children get involved rather than sitting and trying to absorb vast amount of information. Also the teacher can theme the poster on the current topic the children are learning.
